Love yourself no matter what

In this post I’ve decided to express the importance of self love and the little things we can do to make ourselves feel better and how we should learn to love ourselves.

We grow up being ashamed to love ourselves because it can make us look stuck up and obsessed with ourselves, but you know what? We should love ourselves each and everyday!

I spent far too many years hating myself, I didn’t like my body, I didn’t like my voice, I didn’t like my hair and most of all I didn’t like my quiet and shy personality.

Through reading self help books and taking care of my self, I have learned to over come a lot of these issues. I worked hard on losing weight and gaining confidence with myself.

Another issue I had was not knowing where my life was going after I finished uni, I didn’t have a job or an internship lined up, so I went home and was unemployed for around a year and I was too broke to enjoy life.

I hated walking into the job centre, signing on and attending the steps to success programme because it was useless for me, I was fully qualified, with a great cv but I just could not find a job in Derry that was not a 0 hour contract in the hospitality industry.

I always felt like they were looking down on me, treating me like a little stupid girl even though by the age of 22 I had lived and worked in 4 countries!

To get out of this rut, I started the blog for my own sanity. At first it was to help improve my health and to lose weight as the main focus. But after realising I was spending far too much time fixated on the scales and my old blog website letting me down by not properly posting what I had written, it was time for a revamp!

I went from @poachyourselfskinny the weightloss blog to @thevictoriadiaries lifestyle blog, I wanted to share my life journey with you all and hopefully the ups and downs of my life can help someone else over come difficult situations, help them get their life back on track and realise that the only opinions about you that matter are the opinions you have of yourself.

To help you out with learning to love yourself, I’m telling you that is OK to love yourself, it’s amazing to treat yourself and it feels amazing to take care of yourself!

There are many ways to love yourself, it’s ok to to treat yourself if and when you want.

To help you with loving yourself, I am setting you some goals for the next week!

1. Take a break from social media, unfollow the models who make you feel uncomfortable with your body as they appear to be flawless!

2. Go for a walk, put your phone on aeroplane mode and listen to your favourite playlist or podcast.

3. Have a movie night, get in bed with your favourite drinks and snacks with your favourite movie and movie partner (boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend, cat, dog, your favourite teddy)

4. Try something new! It could be yoga, meditation, a new food, crafts, anything you’ve never done before but would like to try.

5. Always smile, the best advice from Carley Allison, an amazing figure skater who sadly lost her battle with sarcoma. I learned about her journey from the Netflix movie Kiss & Cry.

It’s important to love and be happy with yourself, it builds your confidence, makes you feel good and can enhance your life as you may get opportunities that may not have happened if you keep self pitying!
